A Message from the District Chair:
Welcome to the Ninth District Democratic Party! It is my honor to serve as your Democratic Party District Chair.
Being a part of the Democratic Party means believing in what Hoosiers can accomplish with quality education, a good-paying job, and stronger communities. It means thinking about the long term for our community and making responsible decisions. Democrats believe that we're greater together than we are on our own. Our community thrives when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. Our goal is to lift up all Hoosiers, not just those at the top.
Our party continues to grow and we welcome those who are willing to make a difference in their community. We're not a coffee clutch or a club- we're a working committee composed of party officers from each of our District's thirteen counties. Our diverse members are dedicated to cultivate, recruit, support and elect Democrats in our county and region. If you are looking for ACTION and CHANGE, we are the conduit for YOU. I encourage you to attend a meeting or an event, volunteer or just stay informed via our social media accounts and e-mailing list. We need advocates within all levels of interest and action. If I can be of any service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me at 812-725-2018 or via email at [email protected].
Democratically Yours,

Our Mission
Being a part of the Ninth Congressional District Democratic Party means believing in what Hoosiers can accomplish with quality education, a good-paying job, and stronger communities. It means thinking about the long term for our communities and state, and making responsible decisions. Democrats believe that we're greater together than we are on our own. We know that families and individuals thrive when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. Our party is focused on building communities that lift up all Hoosiers, not just those at the top.
After years of Republican dominance and leadership, Indiana sits at the bottom on nearly every major quality of life measure including health, education, and average family income. And in 2014, Indiana had the worst voter turnout in the country for the midterm elections. We believe that effective governance is a reasonable expectation of citizens and an engaged community is a strong community. We are committed to making sure every Hoosier voice is heard, and every vote is counted.

Our Leaders:
Our party organization begins at the local precinct level with the election of a Precinct Committee Person to a four year term. This individual appoints a Vice Committee Person and together they serve on the county committee. Each county committee elects four officers - a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. In addition to leading the county party organization, the Chair and Vice Chair also serve on our District Committee. The District Committee also elects a District Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. The District Chair and Vice Chair serve on the State Committee and elect officers at that level.
Our District:
The Ninth Congressional District is composed of all or part of thirteen counties (Brown, Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Monroe, and Morgan) in south central Indiana. The district extends from its southern boarder along the Ohio River opposite Louisville, KY, roughly follows Interstate 65 along its eastern boarder to the northern boarder at the Marion - Johnson County line, and continues westward into Morgan County before returning southward along the Indiana 37 corridor.* Significant communities in the district include Bedford, Bloomington, Corydon, English, Greenwood, Jeffersonville, Martinsville, Nashville, New Albany, Paoli, Scottsburg, and Seymour.
A mix of suburban communities, rural farmland, as well as academic and industrial centers, the Ninth District has both a rich history as well as a dynamic place in Indiana's future. The Town of Corydon (Harrison County) served as the first State Capitol from 1816 - 1825 and was also the home of Indiana's 47th Governor, Democrat Frank O'Bannon (1930 - 2003). The home of two Indiana University campuses (IU Bloomington & IU Southeast), the district also contains a wealth of other educational institutions including Franklin University and Ivy Tech. Significant business and industrial firms include American Commercial Barge Line, Cook Group, Indiana Limestone Company, IU Health Services, Koetter Woodworking, and Samtec, among others. Tourism and recreation play an important role in French Lick with the Historic French Lick Resort Hotel, in Brown County with the Brown County State Park and in Mitchell with the Spring Mill State Park and Astronaut Gus Grissom Memorial.
* The Indiana General Assembly approved new Congressional Maps on Oct. 1, 2021 and the new district reflects a boundary change transferring Morgan County to the 4th District, Johnson County to the 6th District and Crawford and Orange Counties to the 8th District. This new map will also add Bartholomew, Jennings, Jefferson, Decatur, Ripley, Switzerland, Franklin, Dearborn and Ohio counties.
